Four Week Challenge

Scouts Four Week Challenge (Adult Volunteering)

The Four Week Challenge is a test drive of Scouting for Adults.

It’s like a try-before-you-buy (no commitment) to see if volunteering with Scouts is something you enjoy.

No experience is needed and any help you can give is truly amazing.

We’ll make it easy

A gradual introduction over four weeks to give you a taste of what it’s like to guide our youth members, helping them to learn life skills and become tomorrow’s leaders.

Along the way, we hope you’ll learn some new skills, form new friendships, enjoy new experiences and get a sense of how great it is to make a difference to the lives of young people and their community.

The Challenge

Week 1: See what we get up to

Join us at our Scout Hall for:

We’ll get you off to a good start and make sure you have all the support you need.

Please reach out any time if you have any questions.

Week 2: Start to help out

Do you have any particular skills, interests or hobbies?

Would you like to help run an activity or a game?

Let us know what you’re interested in! We’re always looking for new activities & ideas.

Week 3: Get a little more involved

By now you should start feeling like you’re part of the team.

Maybe you’d like to share a hobby or skill with the Scouts?

We’ll help you run an activity or game.

Week 4: You’ll know if Scouting is for you

If you love it, continue to come along each week.

We’ll sort out all the paperwork along the way and get you officially registered.

If not, perhaps there’s something else you can help with behind the scenes?

What’s involved?

Similar to sports teams, we only ask for a few hours each week to help coordinate fun activities.

A regular session usually takes approximately one or two hours, one evening per week.
However, Leaders can spend as much or as little time as they like.

Scouting offers a flexible volunteering scheme and you do not have to be there every week.

Adults often work as a team to support our young people in Scouting - The more Leaders, the easier it is.

What skills do I need?

No prior experience is necessary - We offer full training and cover all your membership costs.

Scout Leaders come in many shapes and sizes, and from a variety of backgrounds. You do not need to have any previous experience within Scouting to take part. You may have skills from other areas of your life that can be applied to volunteering.

A valid Working With Children Check (WWCC) is required for all Adult Leaders and for any Adult attending regular or overnight activities.

If you haven’t got one already, apply for a free Working With Children Check through Service NSW.

Will I be supported?

Yes! Volunteers are supported by other volunteers at multiple levels: Our Group, District, Region, State & National.
No matter what advice or support is needed, there will always be someone who can help out.

From the start new leaders are supported by experienced Leaders to guide and support them through the process.

There are also many opportunities to meet other volunteers in similar positions at district and Region events.

What’s in it for me?

There are many benefits in Scouting for Adults - Training, fellowship, skills development, and the satisfaction of contributing to the development of young people.

Young people stand to gain wonderful benefits from our unique method of character and leadership training.

As an adult leader, you play an integral role in supporting the development of our Scouts as they reach their full potential.

Similar to sports teams, we only ask for a few hours each week to help run the Group.

No prior experience is necessary - We offer full training and cover all your membership costs.

As a uniformed leader, you will also receive a 15% discount on your child’s membership fees after your basic training is complete.
